How does laser skin rejuvenation work?

Laser skin rejuvenation works by delivering energy to the skin for tightening the skin, removal of pigment, and stimulation of collagen production. After the procedure, yourskin looks and feels tighter and younger, giving your face a completely refreshed look.

You may notice this treatment works in a similar way to a chemical peel. The main difference is that it results in less downtime and shedding of the skin compared to a peeling application. It is also better at targeting pigment. As part of your consultation, we can help you decide which treatment will be the best for your unique situation.

Laser skin rejuvenation is a highly adaptable treatment that can benefit skin almost anywhere on your body. Common areas to treat include the face and neck as well as any area that is sun damaged. Most people focus on the full face to see a complete rejuvenation of your facial skin.

What is Erbium YAG skin resurfacing?

Erbium YAG skin resurfacing is similar to CO2 laser skin resurfacing but uses a different wavelength that is effective and safe for a broader range of skin types (Caucasian to light Asian skin). It is very precise in how it treats, tightens, and vaporizes the outer layers of skin. It can be calibrated to deliver a milder “micropeel” that vaporizes only the thinnest outer layer of dead skin so that you have a beautiful healthy glow to the skin with minimal downtime. However, it can also perform an aggressive laser resurfacing that can smooth out deeper lines and wrinkles, remove unwanted sunspots and sun damage, and reveal skin that looks years to decades younger. Compared to CO2 laser resurfacing, the recovery period can be briefer, milder, and with less social down time.

What type of skin resurfacing is right for me?

Both CO2 laser resurfacing and Erbium YAG lasers deliver consistent results and can address a range of concerns. Although these laser treatments can be repeated any number of times, a single treatment results in dramatic and noticeable skin improvement. The improved recovery time for Erbium YAG laser treatment and its ability to treat a broader range of skin tones (i.e. slightly darker skin tones) is one key factor in patient preferences. The wavelength used results in a lower risk of temporary hyperpigmentation in darker skin types. We are happy to offer both CO2 and Erbium YAG laser skin resurfacing options and will help you choose the best solution for your skin type and treatment goals.

Does insurance cover laser skin rejuvenation?

Laser skin rejuvenation is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance. However, we work closely with you to provide accurate and upfront estimates for your treatment plan, so that you will be knowledgeable and can work within your aesthetic budget. We also offer interest-free financing through our partnership with Alphaeon.

What is the “downtime” after laser skin rejuvenation?

Laser skin rejuvenation involves minimal downtime compared to surgery. Still, there is a healing period for the treated areas. There may be some mild swelling and darkening of the pigment before it clears. Most patients continue with their daily routine and have no significant limitations. We do recommend avoiding prolonged unprotected sun exposure both before and after treatment for a few days.
